Focus on fresh
Because many of our survey responses and microbiome samples come from Nom Nom customers, we have a unique opportunity to study the effect of eating mildly cooked fresh food on dogs and cats, something that will become increasingly important for the general population as more and more pet parents are trying fresh diets. This not only gives us increased statistical power to come to stronger scientific conclusions, but allows us to refine and reformulate our recipes to yield the greatest health benefits.
Case study: Fresh food and weight
One reason pet parents might switch to fresh food is to bring their overweight pet down to a more healthy weight — but is this scientifically validated? To understand the relationship between different food types and overweightness/obesity we compared rates of weight struggles between dogs eating different types of food, and found that, compared to dry and canned foods, fresh food is associated with a lower proportion of weight issues.
